Aboitiz Construction received a Sustainability Award from Aboitiz InfraCapital’s LIMA Estate during the LIMA Locator Appreciation Night on March 21 at Holiday Inn & Suites Batangas LIMA Park. The award recognizes the Barangay Eco-Cycle Resource Facility Project, an initiative aimed at improving community waste management in Brgy. Bagong Pook, Malvar, Batangas.
Turned over in June 2024, the project involved the construction and turnover of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in the said community. The facility serves as a shared resource between the company and the barangay, with full ownership transferring to the local government once Aboitiz Construction completes its project in the area.
The initiative also included an education campaign for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries and barangay officials, teaching proper waste segregation and recycling. Since its turnover last year, the project has contributed to a 17.5% reduction in segregated waste and a 19.39% decrease in landfill-bound waste, based on the latest data sent by the barangay to the Malvar Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
“This award affirms our commitment to integrating sustainability into our projects and making a lasting impact on the communities where we operate. Through the Barangay Eco-Cycle Resource Facility Project, we are fostering responsible waste management and environmental stewardship,” said Karmine Andrea Ching, Senior AVP for Business Transformation of Aboitiz Construction.
Aboitiz Construction plans to replicate the project in other host communities and conduct regular monitoring to ensure its long-term impact. The company continues to integrate sustainable practices into its operations, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.
